The Role:

Reporting to the Estimating Manager, the Junior Estimator will assist in the execution of project budgets, quantity takeoffs, purchase orders, contracts, etc. for multifamily construction projects.

  1. Tendering
  • Creating tender packages, meet with Procurement team and Construction for bidders to be added to list prior to tender calls.
  • Job scope clarifications, reviewing drawings and specs and creating new scope clarifications.
  • Ensuring the accuracy of tender packages
  • Directing questions to appropriate parties

  1. Data Entry/Filing:
  • Assisting with documentation entry such as Purchase Orders, letters, contract entries, DocuSign documents
  • Organize purchase orders and contracts in Procore and Procore Drive as required
  • Request WCB / COI as required, follow up on trades who haven’t submitted

  1. Estimating:
  • Perform quantity takeoffs to facilitate in budget creation and purchase orders
  • Create and submit estimating reports – work closely with Estimating Manager
  • Ensuring accuracy of quotes, comparative to take offs
  • Learn/assist with Class C/D budgets
  • Perform value engineering / cost analysis studies under the direction of the Estimating Manager
  • Conduct research on current labour costs, material costs, source new leads
  • Learn minor bid recaps of lower dollar thresholds, present to Estimating Manager

  1. Trade relations:
  • Assist on sourcing new trades
  • Adding new interest into Procore for tendering
  • Reach out to trades as required for position
  • Build and maintain current relationships by answering questions during tenders, etc.

  1. Purchase Orders:
  • Draft purchase orders for execution as required
  • Ensure accuracy of purchase order line items, request schedule of values if required

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in construction estimating and project management
  • A diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or an acceptable combination of education and related experience
  • Excellent project planning skills
  • Strong estimating experience. Must have experience reading and interpreting engineered plans/specs and developing cost estimates
  • Understands construction tenders, drawings, processes, and standards through experience and earned qualifications
  • Experience in working with estimating software such as Bluebeam, etc.
  • Extensive proficiency using MS Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Understand scope of work to bid as well as contractual terms and obligations
  • Ability to maintain good working relations with material suppliers, customers and subcontractors
  • Highly effective analytical, negotiation and conflict-resolution skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and problem-solve when faced with new challenges
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and meet strict deadlines
  • Takes initiative and able to work both independently and in a collaborative environment
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Desire to learn and grow professionally
